Bog wood ring

$165.00

Bog wood, you say? You read that right, bog wood! Bog wood forms from trees that have been buried in peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions, sometimes for hundreds or even thousands of years. The wood is usually stained brown by tannins dissolved in the acidic water. Bog wood represents the early stages in the fossilisation of wood. It may come from any tree species naturally growing near or in bogs, including oak, pine, yew and swamp cypress. Bog wood is a rare form of timber that is claimed to be "comparable to some of the world's most expensive tropical hardwoods. And we made rings from it! In the dark it is mostly dark grey and even black, but in the light it becomes a coffee color with wonderful lines and swirls. This is truly a very special wood. This item is a size 11, 8mm wide. Water resistant. Need a different ring size (6-12 and half sizes, too)? Leave us a note with your purchase or contact us prior!
